Vintage Signed Beatrix Brooch - 1970s Owl & Crescent Moon - enamel & crystal
Nat Sugarman founded The Beatrix jewellery company in America in 1946; named after his sister, Beatrice. At first, the company didn’t mark their pieces at all, right up until 1975 markings were inconsistent - either BJ or Beatrix but from 1975 to 1977 marking on the back side was constant and mandatory. In 1977 the company was sold to Treasure Master who themselves folded in 1983.
Beatrix are most well known for brooches celebrating themes of traditional American holidays; the most popular, of course, being Christmas, Halloween and Easter. These were usually of gold tone metal, enamel, rhinestones and crystals.
This beautiful enamel and crystal brooch is in overall good vintage condition; the bottom two crystals on the owl are missing but this is only visible on close inspection - please see the photographs for details. It has a standard roll-over safety clasp, and has been put through an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner for hygiene.
